LGS Öhringen 2016

The Ohrn green corridor forms the backbone of urban Öhringen’s open spaces. From the city centre, it connects Hofgarten with the landscape space of Cappel-Aue. Intersecting urban axes mediate the River Ohrn’s relationship to the city. New urban axes such as Limes Park extend the city’s reference system. The spatial structure of Hofgarten is a determined reflection of the palace and the Hoftheater. The reintroduction of the central park axis allows the baroque origins of the park to be experienced again. The Ohrn Promenade connects Hofgarten with the landscape of Cappel-Aue. The watercourse will be in parts widened and narrowed to increase its dynamism. The two sides of the riverbank will take on differentiated character. The side facing the sports facilities will be closed off with dense, near-natural vegetation, while the water along the promenade will be made more accessible. Limes – the former border between the Roman Empire and the Upper Germanic tribes – is reinterpreted: Limes Park now marks the transition between the city and the natural landscape.
