Campus Rütli CR2 Berlin

A campus is to be built in Berlin-Neukölln that will be used by pupils during school hours as well as by pupils, other youths, local residents and clubs in the afternoon. Several building complexes (sports hall, parents' and counselling centre, school extension) among open spaces of varying typologies make the campus a central meeting point for the neighbourhood. The open-space concept envisages a sports campus in the north and a park campus in the south. Rütlistraße, now a play street, connects both parts of the campus as an axis of access, with two squares located at either end. The recurring element is the building roofs of sloping lawns. A grandstand with concrete steps is embedded in one of these slopes. A large playing field of artificial turf and two small playing fields (EPDM) make for expansive sporting areas; a long-jump area, a 100-metre track, shot-put grounds and a gymnastics lawn complement the facilities. The park campus surrounds the existing buildings and the school extension and integrates the existing playground. The existing recreational infrastructure is enhanced by a new skate park and school garden.
