City Harbor Senftenberg

Senftenber’s city harbour will be the gateway to the newly emerging Lusatian Lakeland. The sculpted figure of the wooden pier constitutes an independent urban element with high recognition value. The pier, jetty and functional harbour buildings merge to form a strollable shape that accommodates all the harbour buildings at an offset height to the water. Harbour-relevant fixtures such as the harbour master's office and public offerings like a tourist information centre are arranged here. The two end points of the open ring form offer contrasting experiences: The expanse of the lake at the end of the pier, and the view from the lookout tower over the harbour, lake and city at the end of the jetty. The functional buildings of the harbour are separated from the volume of follow-on investments, making the latter more flexible in terms of time and space while allowing the harbour to remain functional without them. The structures resulting from the first follow-on investments can dock onto the edge of the upper harbour promenade to form the backbone of the harbour sculpture. By facing south towards the lake, all the buildings enjoy spectacular views.
