Green Corridor Jüchen

The Green Corridor connects Dyck Castle with the Garzweiler open-cast mining landscape, which is currently undergoing transformation. With its focus on climate-adapted rural development, the Green Corridor serves as a model for others to follow.

The renaturation of streams and enrichment with ecologically valuable landscape elements are creating flood channels and wet meadows. These add aesthetic value to the landscape and, with their microstructure, create space for a diverse flora and fauna.

The corridor between the streams provides a spatial boundary and allows this clearly defined area to be thought of as a place of transformation. Initial projects involving sustainable and experimental agriculture and measures for a structurally rich agricultural landscape can be started here on sections of the corridor.

Various measures along the streams ensure a significant improvement in ecological continuity. The wilderness corridors combine measures for climate adaptation.
