BUGA Wuppertal 2031
Wuppertal's location in a narrow valley basin is unique. Numerous attractions benefit from this favorable location: from the world-famous suspension railway at the bottom of the valley to the equally well-known Wuppertal Zoo on the hillside and the high altitudes of the Wupperpforte. The BUGA connects these via the challenging topography to form an eventful circular route.
The BUGA completes the circle of already attractive locations within the city of Wuppertal, from the new Lockschuppenareal district, to the Tesche with its old nursery, the new sports park on the Wassack landfill site, and the famous mountain zoo, to the forest parks at the Wupperpforte. The new suspension bridge closes the gap and enables an attractive circular route far beyond the BUGA.
The BUGA 2031 in Wuppertal has set itself the goal of focusing on forward-looking topics such as resource efficiency and circularity, thereby organizing a garden show that is in tune with the times. To this end, existing or at least local materials will be used and sensitive interventions will be made to the existing structures.
Striking structures such as the chimney and greenhouse structures of the old nursery or the elevated water tank and Von-Der-Heydt Tower on the Königshöhe will be restored and become important landmarks with local identity. Striking landscape features such as the rocky outcrop in the locomotive shed area will also be integrated as defining elements of the overall concept, giving the BUGA its unmistakable character.
