Information Center Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt
As part of the redevelopment of the Mathildenhöhe UNESCO World Heritage Site in Darmstadt, the eastern slope is being transformed into a central arrival and recreation area with a new information center. Together with the reconstructed studio garden, this will create an important open space at the eastern edge of the site.
A green forest foyer will transform the existing copse into a light, green square. The pavilion-like visitor center stands alone in the clearing and is surrounded by a flowing green carpet that gently mediates between architecture and landscape.
The result is a hybrid open space consisting of a square, garden, and grove, whose soft design language deliberately contrasts with the historical geometry and interprets the landscape character of the site in a contemporary way.
The forest foyer develops from the existing structure and formulates an independent, landscape-oriented open space typology. In conjunction with the information center, a sensitively composed transitional space between architecture and nature is created—quiet, atmospherically dense, and sustainably effective.
