ISEK Right Bank of the Weser

The Rechtes Weserufer (Right bank of the Weser) area in the city of Minden is marked by heterogeneous spatial structures, building typologies and uses. Mindeners live and work in this organically developed quarter. The Mittelland Canal and Minden Glacis, the railway station, forts and old shipyard buildings constitute the fixed points of the urban space and urban development. The Weser meadows are difficult to access; the study area generally lacks a coherent open-space or settlement fabric.
In addition to structural densification and renewal, the urban space and stringent integration of the Weser floodplains is in need of functional upgrading. The landscape of the extensive floodplains and Weser River as well as its central location offer great opportunities for developing Rechtes Weserufer into a sustainable urban area, with open space as connective tissue between the fragments. The concept includes analysis, focal points for action, individual measures and public participation formats.
