Gedenkstätte Zwangsarbeiter:innenlager Neuaubing

The open-space concept manifests itself in separate areas that are spatially linked yet fulfil different functions. The pathway between the neighbouring residential area to the east and the new Freiham district will be developed as an expansive footpath and cycle path made of light-coloured asphalt. It serves as an important transverse connector between the everyday routes of residents from the neighbourhood and visitors to the memorial. A square-like widening functions as a central arrival point that spatially connects the exhibitions in Barracks 2 and 5.
The courtyard area of the former forced labour camp, which is enclosed by the barracks, materialises as a coherent figure. Fragmented islands of green mass to form a distinct overall shape that hints at the contours of the former building complex. The green islands are composed of forest fragments that poetically reinterpret the prevailing dense overgrowth. They comprise typical forest vegetation such as grasses and ferns while translating it into an artificial language of forms that bestows upon the location a character all its own.
