Neue Mitte Damm Aschaffenburg

The aim of the competition was to establish the planning conditions for a new district centre, to redefine the central public space around St. Michael’s Platz and to develop it into a square that is desirable and fulfilling for locals and visitors to frequent.
As important components of the integrated action plan, the proposed individual building blocks will be developed coherently as part of a sustainable overall concept for the new centre of Damm. Only through joint interaction will the individual measures have sufficient impact to forge a successful image for the district and to contribute to an upvaluation process for the city as a whole. A new artery – the Stadtachse, or city axis – connects the Damm district with the Aschaff and Main rivers, which more-or-less define the cityscape. At the centre of Damm, St. Michael’s Platz forms an important link and gathering place for the neighbourhood.
