Open Space at Schäfersee Berlin

The listed park at Schäfersee Lake has undergone several transformations since its creation in the 1920s. While the various layers of time have left their trace and the general ring-shaped figure of the park around the lake is still easily recognisable, the historical views of the water have been lost.
Schäfersee Lake as a central open-space element is once again placed at the centre of the overall design. Various thematic rings, such as the park promenade, the lake deck, the shoreline and the activity belt, are arranged circularly around the lake. The existing park path connects to a ring-shaped lakeside promenade and enables for varied circuits around the lake. Various elements and types of open space lie adjacent to the promenade: in the east, an urban lakeside edge with seating steps and activity opportunities, in the west, landscaped meadows and protected biotopes. Park entrances of different dimensions link to the promenade and connect it to the surrounding urban and green structures. Each new clarified access point culminates in a balcony with a striking view onto the water. The many interconnections create an exciting rhythm and clear zoning in the varying sections of the park.
