Luisenhöfe Aachen

The aim of the competition was to find an urban design for the development of the block interior of the Luisenhöfe neighbourhood perimeter development. Particular importance was attached to the consideration of the existing buildings and their integration into the urban environment.

The block interior of Luisenhöfe becomes redensified and gains clear articulation by way of the new buildings. The new spatial edges allow for clear zoning into private, public and semi-public subareas. The newly placed buildings create differentiated courtyard areas with distinct character. The Luisenhöfe quarter comprises three succinct divisions: Boxpark, Boxplatz and Boxgarten. The private residential courtyards consist of a communal area surrounded by private gardens assigned to the buildings. The student dormitory possesses a forecourt as a lounge and waiting area for residents and visitors.
