LGS Fulda 2023
The broad valley containing the river meadows around the Fulda River forms the spine of the inner-city open space network. With the 2023 State Horticultural Show, the peripheral industrial areas will draw closer to the floodplains and the new district of Fulda-Galerie, amid the agricultural landscape of the surrounding hills, will be linked to the city centre via the Fulda floodplains.
The Fulda floodplains are divided into sections, with varying levels of accessibility to the urban centre: the cathedral quarter and castle park, natural space and environmental education, recreational and club sports. In furthering the green corridor of floodplains with new recreational uses, the focus is on production: industrial production, agricultural production and food production in the city. The distinctive sequence of varying atmospheres and programmes finds expression in the diversity of the open spaces. A strong contrast is established between the more-or-less unadulterated floodplain areas in the valley, the fringes of urban industrial settlement and the highland agricultural areas.
