LGS Torgau 2022

The State Horticultural Show Torgau combines an explicitly nature-oriented design with civic engagement and uses for culture and leisure, thus providing a model for the linking of nature conservation, monument protection and local recreation.
Torgau’s open-space structure is marked by several ring-shaped stages of development. While the inner ring along the medieval city wall is informed by the Renaissance history of the stone city, the glacis ring is rife with lush nature. A third ring of production, encompassing former industrial and commercial areas, allotment gardens and new civic gardens, has an outer location along the infrastructure routes. From these spatial divisions emerge three differentiated circular paths: a landscape promenade through the natural space of the glacis belt, an activity parcour through the Junger Garten and a city promenade around the historic old town. For the visitor, this results in distinct routes with widely varying worlds of experience.
