Open Spaces Wedau-South Duisburg
On the site of the former Duisburg-Wedau repair works and railway yard, up to 3,000 residential units will be built over the next 10 to 15 years, making it an important residential and business location both for the city as a whole and for the region.
The new residential quarters are embedded within Wedau’s recreational landscape. The outdoor facilities in the neighbourhoods carry on with existing structures while enhancing them with new programming and clear pathways. The establishment of open spaces with high scenic value offering a range of recreational opportunities makes a significant contribution to the sustainable appeal of these future residential quarters.
In particular, their close relationship to the water, be it the regatta course in the north, Masurensee lake as part of the Six Lakes Plateau or the small-scale watercourse of the canal axis, presents an outstanding locational advantage for the future residential quarters. A roughly 2-km promenade stretches through all the neighbourhoods from north to south.
