Around the Siegberg Siegen

Over the centuries, Siegen has developed into a tale of two cities, with a lower town on the river and an upper town on the Siegberg. In recent decades, the lower town has gained in importance as an economic centre, while the upper town has suffered a loss of significance. This is reflected in its declining economic activity and an abundance of vacancies. Profiling the upper town as a historical and cultural centre offers an opportunity to rival the economic centre of the lower town with attractions of its own.
The upvaluation of the open spaces on and around Siegberg establishes attractive urban spaces that encourage multiple programming and contribute to revitalising the upper town. The design of the open spaces focusses on facilitating the experience of Siegberg’s topographical dynamics and highlighting historical references.
