Garden Show Eppingen 2021

A historical Merian engraving from 1685 shows Eppingen’s Old Town perched on a spur-like hilltop above the floodplains of the Elsenz and Hilsbach rivers. Approaching the city from the railway station today still presents this picturesque panorama – a look across the station meadow shows Eppingen’s Old Town peering across a green pasture landscape. The clearly defined massing of the town surrounded by gardens and countryside is what gives this historic town its immense charm.
The historic city boundary can again be experienced by way of the “Stadtbogen”. Along with the reactivated mill canal, this arcing promenade marks the former city fortifications. Accentuated by facilities for leisure-time activities, the “Stadtbogen” encloses the historic town centre with its carefully restored Alemannic and Franconian half-timbered houses and connects vastly varying open spaces along the town border: from the town gardens of Bachwegle Park in the east to Kleinbrückentorplatz and the new municipal park, which offers a wide range of functionality for the entire population. A series of small parks links the promenade with the Elsenz, as the city moves ever closer to the water.
