Municipal Park on the Enz Besigheim

Besigheim’s Old Town lies on a picturesque spur between the Enz and Neckar rivers. Countless times over its long history, it has been memorialised on canvas and sketchpads and has lost none of its appeal to this day. The panorama view from the west is particularly impressive: the urban backdrop of outstanding structures – the town hall, the “Alte Kelter” civic centre, churches and towers – rises directly on the banks of the Enz. Such an impressive interplay of compact urban structure and riverscape is unique.
The new park on the banks of the Enz sets the scene for the urban panorama. A looping path stages the visual relationships to the old town, connecting nature to the city’s history. It offers a variation of perspectives on the city: from the depths of the railway station, from the park promenade or directly from the riverbank. Its design is deliberately open and restrained, with an unobstructed view onto the banks. The Enzpark literally and figuratively builds bridges between the Old Town and the newer Weststadt.
