Leibnitz University Hannover

The two opposing complexes of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering form a central campus square, creating an urban space accentuated by two solitary buildings with special public functions. The building to the west closes off the square longitudinally and forges a connection to the adjacent construction area. To the east, the second solitary building of the campus square establishes an emotional and, by way of a bridge, literal connection to the Hanover Centre for Production Technology (PZH). This central building stands at the centre of a sequence of squares that begins in the east with the PZH, across the adjacent street, and continues in the west in a sequence of smaller squares beyond the campus square. The central building of the campus square establishes an architectural landmark on Universitätsstraße that is visible from afar: its dual sides of inclined lecture halls stand out to form a distinctive feature of Leibnitz University Hanover for years to come.
