Sondern Lakefront Olpe

The only lakeside railway station in North Rhine-Westphalia lends the small Olpe district of Sondern its character and allows a direct transition from the railway to an excursion boat. The aim was to minimise the barrier effect of the tracks between the village and the lakeshore, to connect the village more intently with the lake and to increase the general appeal of the location.
The design of the lakeside promenade emphasises the linearity of the landscape as an aesthetic feature. On the land side, it progresses at the same level as the railway platform and connects the emerging car parks to the south of the project area, the multifunctional area, the square at the station and the lakeside park. To the north of the station lie a landscaped park and individually designed play areas. The lakeside promenade was lowered and extends as a protracted straight line with two viewing balconies.
The square at the station has been reduced to one level to create a harmonious, impressive entrance, while the square on lake side of the station forms an expansive plateau. Uniform paving creates a visual link between the squares.
