A new water sports centre with harbour facilities is planned to be built in the Tiefenbrunnen area of Zurich. The new marina is intended to achieve a general upvaluation of the area for the benefit of the public. The task includes the construction of a new harbour facility with the necessary sea- and land-based boat moorings along with other nautical infrastructure. The harbour facility will be designed as a floating pier and include around 400 water and 150 dry berths for boats, a water sports centre, a clubhouse, a public pier and food offerings. The open-space design promotes the meshing of water and land while orchestrating the approach to the lakeshore through a soft transition between the elements. The previously closed-off, commercial/industrial segment of the Zurich lakeshore is to become more perforated, with greater permeability to the water. The water sports centre – with a publicly accessible pier – establishes a new anchor point with a high level of public traffic and an inviting gesture toward the shore.
