LGS Schwäbisch Gmünd 2014

The rerouting of the B29 frees up enormous areas in the inner city of Schwäbisch Gmünd. As part of the 2014 State Horticultural Show, Stadtgarten park will be extended across the River Rems to the new development at the railway station. The area to the north of the new station forecourt will give rise to a sports and leisure facility: Gleispark. Along the ramparts on the Josefsbach stream, which is being extended, will stretch the Gründe Band – a promenade along the water. The sculpted bankside path widens and narrows, cuts into the embankment and at times becomes a long bench. City balconies serve as significant guideposts into the city. Large-leaved plants emphasise the feeling of shadiness; accompanying water gardens and seating stones form stations in the water. By Sunny terraces face the area where the Josefbach feeds into the Rems, allowing onlookers to admire the confluence of waters. Clear axes and new bridges draw Stadtgarten together with Remspark to form an expansive park area. The promenade band strengthens the relationship between the city and the landscape by crossing the Rems valley and connecting Zeiselberg with the St. Salvator overlook on Nepperberg.
