LGS 2029 Vaihingen an der Enz

The course of the Enz River borders directly on the historic town center of Vaihingen and has been decisive for the character and economic development of the town for centuries. With the urban conversion of areas close to the city center, the Enz is undergoing a significant upgrade and is once again becoming the focus of future urban development. With the abandonment of commercial and industrial uses of the Häcker site and the Weller nursery, as well as the relocation of the Egelsee sports field, great potential is being unlocked and crossing the Enz is a logical next step.

The formerly highly monofunctional plots of land are being transformed into a sequence of small-scale usage modules, creating a diverse program for different age groups and interests – from quiet enjoyment of nature to sporting activities. The ecological continuity of the Enz natural area is at the forefront of the development, but the accessibility of the riverbanks will also be improved. In particular, the new Enz terraces on the renaturalized lower reaches allow visitors to experience the river landscape directly.

Transverse axes connect the individual parking areas with the city center across the Enz River, creating a recognizable motif across all parking sections. This brings the city center closer to the water. The intersecting paths are defined by their unique materials and tree species. The light-colored asphalt strips are accompanied by a wide steel edge and stand out clearly from the paths along the riverbank. This gesture is supported by rows of Gleditsia triacanthos ‘Skyline’ trees, which create a recurring motif in the different sections. The new paths provide orientation and give rhythm to the riverside area. The emblematic view of Kaltenstein Castle can be enjoyed from different perspectives.
