LGS Wangen 2024
Wangen is known for its picturesque and historic Old Town – one of the most beautiful in southern Germany. It is an expression of Wangen’s importance as a medieval trading centre. Just beyond an imposing railway embankment lies Wangen’s modern past: the ERBA site, originally a satellite town with its own infrastructure, district life and identity. Since the middle of the 19th century, the ERBA cotton mill has had a decisive influence on the town’s urban and social structure. The Old Town and the ERBA site comprise the two opposing poles of Wangen’s urban development. City waters connect the two poles under the railway: the former millstream canal becomes a striking promenade leading from the Old Town to ERBA Park while linking the new district centre to the Old Town. The Obere Argen becomes an accessible natural watercourse ripe for experience by residents and visitors alike. With ERBA Park and the civic park, two new parks will emerge that are informed by the distinct qualities of the flowing bodies of water and combine fragments of the city to form a new entity.
